What is Garnet?
A very diverse family of stones with colors ranging from dark blood red to yellowish green. Some very rare varieties of the stone are called "color change" garnets.
What is the history of this gem and where is it found?
Garnet has been used in jewelry for centuries, some of the earliest records from ancient Egypt and Rome. Indeed, the garnet trade was very lucrative for many Roman merchants. Found mainly in India, Pakistan, South America and parts of Europe, some rarer varieties of this stone are also found in parts of Africa.

What is its symbolism?
Since time immemorial, garnet has been associated with friendship. However, it also took on a more spiritual level where Christians traditionally believed that garnets represented the blood of Christ. Garnet is the birthstone for the month of January.
